2018 Copyright Publicity Week Press Conference Held in Beijing

On April 23, the National Copyright Administration (NCAC) hosted the 2018 Copyright Publicity Week Press Conference in Beijing. The conference announced key activities to be conducted during the publicity week, released the China-Japan-Korea Copyright Protection Publicity Video and the China’s Network Copyright Industry Development Report 2018, and interpreted the research results of the "Economic Contribution of China’s Copyright Industry in 2016 ". The event was presided over by Tang Zhaozhi, Deputy Director General of Copyright Department of NCAC. Yu Cike, Director General of Copyright Department of NCAC, Lim Wonsun, Chairman of Korea Copyright Commission, Takero Goto, Senior Executive Director of Content Overseas Distribution Association (Japan), Fan Jun, Vice President of Chinese Academy of Press and Publication, Jiang Bo, Deputy Director of Network Copyright Industry Research Base, as well as reporters from central major news media attended the conference.


The publicity video and posters released at the conference were designed, produced and promoted by NCAC, Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. They are designed to publicize the concept of “protecting copyright and encouraging intellectual creation” through the internationally well-known and popular cartoon characters Sun Wukong, Conan and Pororo, so as to further strengthen the online copyright protection and raise awareness about copyright protection among the public, especially young people.


The Chinese Academy of Press and Publication interpreted the research report on the "Economic Contribution of China’s Copyright Industry in 2016 ". According to the research, in 2016, the added value of China's copyright industry increased by 9.0% from the year before into RMB 5.455146 trillion, which accounted for 7.33% of the national GDP. The core copyright industries accounted for 4.58% of the national GDP, and the added value of the core copyright industries accounted for 62% of that of the total copyright industry.The proportion of China’s copyright industry in the national economy has steadily increased, and the overall scale has further grown.


The Network Copyright Industry Research Base released the China’s Internet Copyright Industry Development Report 2018, which shows that China’s network copyright industry continues to maintain a rapid growth trend. In 2017, the market scale of China’s network copyright industry was RMB636.5 billion, an increase of 27.2% compared to 2016. Among them, China’s network copyright industry users paid a total of 318.4 billion, accounting for more than 50% of the scale.
