On April 24, the National Copyright Administration of China (NCAC) held Press Conference of Copyright Publicity Week 2017 in Beijing. The latest achievements of the research on the economic contribution of China’s copyright industry and the China Network Copyright Industry Development Report 2017 were released at the conference. The conference was presided over by Tang Zhaozhi, Vice Director General of the Copyright Department of NCAC, and Yu Cike, Director General of the Copyright Department of NCAC, Fan Jun, Vice President of the China Academy of Press and Publication, Ke Zunquan, Deputy Director of the Information Center of the SAPPRFT, Si Xiao, Deputy Director of the Network Copyright Industry Research Base and President of Tencent Institute, Zhang Qinkun, Secretary-General of the Network Copyright Industry Research Base, as well as reporters from central major news media attended the press conference.

Since 2007, the NCAC has delegated the China Academy of Press and Publication to carry out research on the economic contribution of China’s copyright industry for ten consecutive years. Research results showed that in 2015, the value of China’s copyright industry increased by 5 trillion yuan, reaching 5005.414 billion yuan, accounting for 7.30% of national GDP. The research data indicated that the development of China’s copyright industry enjoyed a sound momentum, with a sustainable growth of value, increasing proportion to the national economy and an increasingly important role in promoting economic development and optimizing the economic structure, which became a new engine for China’s economic development.

The Network Copyright Industry Research Base set up by the NCAC in Tencent Company released China Network Copyright Industry Development Report 2017 (Summary) for the first time, which was based on the industrial scale, i.e. the revenue scale of various enterprises in the industry. Research results showed that during the 10 years of 2006-2016, the industrial scale of China’s core copyright industry in the digital environment increased from 16.38 billion yuan in 2006 to 508.69 billion yuan in 2016, with an annual growth rate of more than 30%. The industrial scale has grown for more than 30 times, forming a unique business model of pan-entertainment and interdisciplinary copyright operation. According to research results, the substantial growth in the industrial scale of China’s core copyright industry in the digital environment contributed more and more to the overall economy and drove the network-oriented and information-oriented transformation of the overall structure of the copyright industry, which has become the new driving energy of China’s economic growth.
