China International Copyright Expo

China International Copyright Expo is the only national comprehensive copyright exposition held on a regular basis by the National Copyright Administration of the People’s Republic of China (NCAC) based on the principle of internationalization, specialization and marketization. With an aim at “exchanges, cooperation, innovation, and development”, the expo serves as an important platform for promoting exchanges in the international copyright industry, facilitating trade in China's copyright industry, and attracting copyright capital. It also functions as an important channel for Chinese copyrights to “go global”. Since 2008, six sessions of China International Copyright Expo have been held in cities such as Beijing, Chengdu, and Guangzhou. The International Copyright Forum and WIPO-NCAC Copyright Awards Ceremony are also held with China International Copyright Expo biennially according to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the NCAC and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).


China International Copyright Expo is aimed at “exchanges, cooperation, innovation, and development”. The purpose of the expo is to promote exchanges in the international copyright industry; advance the industrialization of China’s copyrights, develop the factor market of copyrights, expand copyright marketing channels, facilitate trade in China’s copyright industry; and display copyright results and improve copyright protection.


This expo usually consists of four parts: an opening ceremony, industrial exhibition, thematic activities, and a closing ceremony. The expo mainly covers activities such as business talks, investment promotion, a trade and investment exhibition, and a copyright industry forum. It involves cultural and creative industries, including film and television, animation, games, music, software, written works, pictures, artworks, intangible cultural heritage, laws, and protection technology.


As the only national comprehensive copyright exposition held regularly in China’s cultural, creative and copyright industries, China International Copyright Expo has provided multi-level services for global copyright exchange and trade, including seminars on international copyrights, display of works and results, discussions on cooperation with copyright companies and investment and financing institutions, and public welfare activities themed copyright protection. The expo has attracted exhibitors from 40 countries and regions including the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Russia, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, and Argentina. It has been attended by Written Works Copyright Society of China, Music Copyright Society of China, Audio-Video Copyright Collective Management Society of China, Images Copyright Society of China, China Film Copyright Association, more than 30 relevant industry associations in China, and more than 50 international copyright industry organizations and institutions including the WIPO, International Intellectual Property Alliance (IIPA), United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO), International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC), Societies’ Council for the Collective Management of Performers’ Rights (SCAPR), International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organisations (IFRRO), Business Software Alliance (BSA), Entertainment Software Association (ESA) (formerly known as the “Interactive Digital Software Association”, “IDSA”), Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), European Economic Chamber of Trade, Commerce and Industry (EEIG), Korean Copyright Commission (KCC), Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ), Content Overseas Distribution Association (CODA), U.S. Copyright Clearance Center (CCC), Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), and Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The expo has also attracted leaders at the ministerial level or above, heads of relevant ministries, domestic experts and scholars, and more than 100 international guests.


The expo has brought together numerous experts, scholars, and elites in global cultural and creative industries and many copyright industry organizations, institutions and enterprises. It has been widely praised by the community. Investing and financing transactions worth more than two billion RMB have been concluded thanks to the expo. It has become an international brand event for global exchanges in China’s copyright industry and been dubbed “Copyright Olympics” by an international copyright expert.
