On February 5th, Mr. Zhang Jianchun, Vice Minister of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee & Head of the National Copyright Administration of China (NCAC), had a virtual meeting with Mr. Daren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), who visited China for the opening ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games. The two sides made in-depth talks on continuously consolidating and strengthening the active, pragmatic and friendly cooperation. On the same day, China deposited the instrument of ratification of the Marrakesh Treaty, which will enter into force with respect to China in three months. The Marrakesh Treaty is the world’s only copyright treaty to include a clear human rights perspective, which will further guarantee the rights of persons with print disabilities to have an equal access to culture and education.
Mr. Zhang Jianchun introduced China’s efforts and achievements in ratifying the Marrakesh Treaty and strengthening copyright protection for Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, and expressed gratitude to WIPO for its support and concern given all the time for China’s copyright work. He said that China will effectively implement the Marrakesh Treaty and ensure the treaty benefits persons with print disabilities; meanwhile, China will, as always, strengthen cooperation with WIPO, participate in depth in global intellectual property governance under WIPO’s framework, work together with WIPO for a shared future to build an open, inclusive, balanced and effective new international copyright order, and contribute more Chinese wisdom in promoting copyright protection and developing copyright industry.
Mr. Daren Tang applauded the achievements China made in improving copyright system, comprehensively strengthening copyright protection and promoting the copyright industry development. He looked forward to further cooperation and exchanges with China in the fields of formulating international copyright rules, promoting the implementation of the Beijing Treaty and the Marrakesh Treaty, strengthening the training of international copyright talents, and enhancing copyright protection of folklore, and introducing to the world more of China’s good practice of copyright protection.
